HEPA FILTER INTEGRITY TEST
HEPA FILTER INTEGRITY
TEST
Objective:
This test is
undertaken to verity each set of HEPA filters Integrity.
Acceptance Criteria:
Acceptance
filter leakage shall be defined as permitting not more than 0.01% particle
penetration of the up stream concentration.
Test Equipments:
1.
Aerosol
Generator.
2.
Aerosol
photometer.
Procedure:
1.
Switch
ON the Air Handling unit.
2.
Ensure
that the aerosol photometer is having a valid calibration certificate with
threshold sensitivity below 10 microgram per litre for 0.3µ particles. The aerosol photometer should have a sampling
rate of 28.3±3% L/min.(1 CFM).
3.
Add
DOP(Dioctyl phthalate) or DEHS(Di-2- Ethyl hexyl sebacate) or PAO(Poly Alpha
Olefin) or DOS(Dioctyl sepacate) or Paraffin oil or suitable aerosol material
recommended by the supplier to the aerosol generator.
4.
Keep
the aerosol generator near the return air grill/diffuser/fresh air damper of
the AHU.
5.
Provide
compressed air or nitrogen to the aerosol generator at the pressure between 10
to 20 PSI(equivalent to 2.0 Kg/cm²) and visually confirm the generation
of aerosol.
6.
Switch
ON the Aerosol photometer and turn the photometer selector switch on upstream
mode and connect the tube of the photometer to upstream port of HEPA plenum.
7.
Wait
until photometer displays upstream concentration of 100%. Set the upstream
concentration between 20 to 80µg/Lit of air.
8.
Remove
the tube of photometer and tightly close the upstream port of HEPA housing.
9.
Once
the 100% concentration is established at the upstream side, turn the instrument
knob to downstream.
10. Photometer selector switch set to down stream
and then photometer probe should scan the entire filter face and frame at a
position of about 5cm from the face of the filter and should be traversed
slowly(at a scan rate of not exceeding 5cm/sec for square probe and about 15cm²/sec. for rectangular probe), using slightly overlapping
strokes, as shown below(step 2).
11. The
entire downstream face of each HEPA filter, the perimeter of each filter and
the seal between the filter frames shall be scanned once, as shown below(Step 1
& 2).
12. Measure
the down stream concentration/observe the % of leakage directly on photometer
and record in the raw data sheet.
HEPA FILTER MOUNTING
For clarity step1 and step 2
Step 1: Scanning of perimeter of HEPA filter & joint between the filter frame and housing.
Step 2: Scanning of HEPA filter media using slightly overlapping strokes.
